Vice President Financial Planning & Analytics

The Vice President, Financial Planning and Analytics will work under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer Casino and is responsible for overseeing business analytics, operational excellence and process improvement for all aspects of San Manuel Casino. This position directs analytical teams who utilize Business Intelligence (BI) tools to support on-going analytics for decision making by Executive Management. The Vice President, Financial Planning and Analytics also provides leadership for Operational Excellence and Process Improvement initiatives and the Centralized Scheduling department. They oversee initiatives for improvement to the scheduling process and influence decisions for optimal staffing in all departments. This position will aid in developing the strategic goals that impact financial planning, analytics, operational excellence and centralized scheduling and translate them into tactical plans, as well as provide leadership to ensure goals are attained.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Directs comprehensive financial, operational and business reporting to provide executive leadership with beneficial information to enable business decisions and drive performance.
Oversees financial planning & analysis to include financial models that support operational decisions and capital investment opportunities within the casino.
Oversees forecast process by coordination with all the casino departments. Directs weekly forecasted updates to General Administration to assist with real time business decisions and the timely production of daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly financial reports for G&A, including preparation of materials for the Board.
Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the department's goals and objectives. Direct the development of department-level and business-wide KPI's to be used for performance monitoring and goal setting. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the FP&A department and update and adjust department structure and interaction with operating departments based on business needs.
Oversees industry and competitor analyses to develop operational and financial benchmarks. Directs the partnership with the department leadership to identify opportunities for profitability improvements and cost saving initiatives in various areas of the business.
Directs the development of measurement procedures for projected customer demand for various marketing initiatives by performing pro-forma calculation. Working closely with Marketing to understand and report on initiatives. Directs the development of sophisticated predictive models relative to guest behavior and spend patterns.
Directs monitoring of usage and on-going configuration of all Finance related technology systems, and recommends areas for improvement.
Oversees the implementation and use of integrated data system that will be used by all casino departments to better understand financial results of respective departments.
Directs the creation and execution of statistical modeling solutions that drive improvements throughout the organization. Accumulates, coordinates and reports on casino's main initiatives. Partnering with all departments to obtain information and establish a reporting format that will provide updated status of main initiatives.
Oversee the Centralized Scheduling function which acts as the property contact with respect to all facets of scheduling including vacation approvals, forecasting and analytical reporting. Directs labor analyses and models to ensure casino optimizes labor costs for all casino departments.
Directs the development of productivity and guest service standards to ensure efficient staffing with exceptional guest service.
Oversees the collaboration with Information Technology (IT) on a technical roadmap to ensure long term enhancements and identification of new technologies to improve the company's BI capabilities.
Ensures the vision is clearly set and communicated, providing strategic direction and leadership to drive continuous improvement in alignment with Tribe goals. Leads the charge to drive continuous improvement by focusing on projects which will have the greatest impact to the Casino's performance.
Directs the enhancement of capabilities throughout the Casino to improve processes, drive efficiencies and create measurable financial returns.
Provides strategic direction and support with regular report-outs to senior management on the needs of operation and the results of the Operational Excellence and Process Improvement activities. Manages competing priorities across business enterprises.
Stays abreast of trends and regulations to ensure effectiveness and compliance for the finance, workforce administration and operational excellence functions.
Ensures compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) including accounting standards issued by the Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
Select, train, develop, organize and motivate a highly qualified and effective team, capable of providing optimum staff support for the organization. The development includes technical abilities as well as leadership and interpersonal skills.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related field is required. A Master's degree is highly preferred.
Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience in Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is required, encompassing a very strong foundation of GAAP, budgeting and financial reporting. Casino accounting experience preferred.
Minimum of eight (8) years supervisory experience required.
Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirement.
Must be culturally competent and effective in a multi-cultural environment.
Analytics experience in Gaming, Hospitality or Retail strongly preferred.
Effective at presenting information and responding to questions and/or concerns from management, staff, customers, public groups, regulatory agencies, and/or the Business Committee.
Strong leadership and people management skills required with good motivational and collaboration emphasis; communicates change effectively, overcomes resistance and builds commitment.
Experience using SAS BI Tools, Teradata and other statistical products (i.e. SPSS, R, Tableau, etc.) Required.
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is desirable, but not required

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
