Operations Manager, Casino Accounting

The Manager of Operations is responsible for all areas relating to revenue reporting. The incumbent will be responsible for developing and maintaining accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate recording, verifying, allocating and posting of revenue transactions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and established policies and procedures. The Manager of Operations directly supervises the Revenue Audit Supervisor(s) and indirectly supervises the Senior Revenue Audit Bookkeepers, Revenue Audit Bookkeepers, Data Entry Clerk, Lead File Clerk and File Clerk(s).
The Manager of Operations is responsible for managing the team to ensure that work is properly allocated and completed in a timely and accurate manner. The Manager of Operations addresses strict deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including revenue reconciliations, audit preparation and the oversight of the staff's compliance with Nation Indian Gaming Commission's Minimum Internal Control Standard (NIGC's MICS) and the San Manuel Gaming Commission Regulations (GCR) requirements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Reviews and recommends improvements to the accounting function of the following support operations: Cage operations including main vault and supporting windows; slot drop and count teams; table games drop and count teams.
Monitors the direction of the audit management group, and assists in overseeing the audit function of accounting to ensure that the day to day operations of the revenue cycle is audited and analyzed.
Obtains and demonstrate a thorough understanding of the state and federal regulations.
Works with the audit management group to ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year-end close of the revenue journals within the deadlines set by upper management.
Collaborates with the other department managers to support overall departmental goals and objectives.
Oversees the department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Advises staff regarding the handling of non-routine revenue transactions.
Responds to inquiries from the Controller of Operations, CFO and Casino wide managers regarding revenue performance and flow.
Works with the Controller of Operations to coordinate with external auditors, internal auditors/Gaming Commission and regulators to respond to schedule requests related to operations.
Responsible for the overall development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
Oversees the coaching and mentoring of the audit management group and audit staff to implement goals and objectives for each year.
Supports Controller of Operations with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Advises Controller of Operations on the progress to enhance the professional development of the audit team.
Monitors appropriate solutions to enhance and integrate with other Financial, Operational, and Information Technology audits.
Responsible for maintaining exceptional, constant, and effective communication with other departments regarding changes in the day-to-day operation.
Practices excellent written and verbal communication with other departments and management
Supports management group by ensuring that they have the necessary tools to complete daily tasks
May be asked to attend audit and accounting courses and present information to the audit team
Responsible for managing any new or significant projects through the project life cycle within the set timeline and budget. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members, other casino departments, and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan.
Define the projects' objectives and oversee project quality throughout its life cycle.
Enhance and maintain open, comprehensive, and effective communication between all audit team members
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Manager of Operations carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Education/Experience/Qualifications
Bachelor's degree is required. (Business degree with a concentration in Accounting or Finance from an accredited college or university preferred).
MBA degree and/or CPA preferred.
Minimum 5 years work experience and/or training in Audit, Accounting, Fraud, Risk, Compliance, or other professional investigative or risk-based experience required.
Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience.
Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS), National Indian Gaming Commission Minimum Internal Controls.
Employee must have experience demonstrating the utmost discretion and confidentiality as they will have access to private information such as Social Security Numbers, credit cards, personal data or financial data from colleagues, personnel or customers.
Knowledge of Title 31 Banking Secrecy Act Regulations preferred.
Possesses exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
Must be independent and must not have any direct relatives associated in the functioning of the gaming operations and/or gaming activities.
Strong knowledge of accounting software, database software and casino Operating Systems preferred.
Must possess advanced computer skills and advanced user level proficiency in all Microsoft Office Applications, with an emphasis on Excel.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
Certified Public Accountants (CPA) license in good standing is highly recommended.
Must possess a current and valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record as determined by the Company's insurance carrier.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
